About the doula

You’ve probably heard of a doula before…

But what exactly is a doula, and what can her presence offer me?

Towards my doula support services

What is a doula ?

A doula supports mothers and couples during the perinatal period, from pregnancy to postpartum. Regardless of their choices and values, she helps them take ownership of their experience and live it consciously.

  • A doula is a listening ear, adopting a compassionate and non-judgmental attitude.

  • A doula is a wealth of information, which she shares with you, empowering you to make informed choices.

  • A doula is authentic; she enters your intimate space and helps you open up to what you truly want.

  • A doula has experience and provides tools, knowledge, and techniques that she shares with you to ease this life transition.

  • A doula helps you create a peaceful, nurturing space around the arrival of your child.

The doula complements the midwife, offering holistic support around birth (emotional, physical, and practical), considering all dimensions of the individual.

A doula is someone who reminds you of your strength at a time when you are most vulnerable

Why choosing a doula ?

Scientific studies* agree on the physical, mental, and social benefits of support during the perinatal period. There is no doubt that the way we are supported influences our experience of parenthood and the birth process.

It has been shown that continuous support during childbirth reduces:

  • – 50% risk of cesarean sections

  • – 40% of instrumented births using forceps

  • – 25% of labor duration

  • – 30% of the use of pain relief

Receiving the services of a doula increases the chances of having a positive birth experience.

A doula is also the choice of a pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experience rooted in trust. She supports you through all the steps that feel important to you. A relationship of trust is built, and the bond strengthens as the doula and the parents get to know each other. This special relationship acknowledges emotional needs, making it possible to embrace each other’s vulnerabilities while focusing on strengths.

Trusting a doula is giving yourself the best chance for a gentle and respectful pregnancy and postpartum. It’s also about creating a birth plan that reflects who you are and empowering you to choose the tools that will support your birthing process. The doula contributes to a calm, serene environment, increasing your chances of establishing breastfeeding smoothly and building a strong attachment with your baby.
